Ibiza vs Mallorca: how charter provisioning differs across the Balearics

Two islands, two operating models — and what captains crossing between them should know.

Same archipelago, very different operations

A captain who provisions both islands learns quickly that Ibiza and Mallorca are not interchangeable. The drive from Palma to Sant Antoni de Portmany is sixty-five nautical miles — but the operational reality on each side is wildly different.

Cold chain and ferry windows

In Mallorca we run our own central kitchen and our own refrigerated vans. In Ibiza we ship from the Mallorca kitchen on the Baleària ferry route, which means the cut-off for a next-morning Ibiza delivery is 15:00 the day prior. Anything later moves to the next ferry slot.

Customs and intra-EU

Both islands are EU territory; no customs paperwork on intra-Spain shipments. But for non-EU yachts there is a temporary import regime that determines what can be consumed on board vs. landed. We handle the paperwork on our side; the captain just needs to share the yacht's flag and tax status.

The Ibiza nightlife premium

Ibiza's charter calendar is heavily skewed toward the high season (June–September) and has a different rhythm of provisioning — more spirits, more champagne, more late-night canapés. Our standing-order template for an Ibiza charter is 40% bar, 30% canapés, 20% breakfast/lunch, 10% private dinner, vs. 20/20/40/20 for a Mallorca family charter.

Mallorca's superyacht density

Mallorca's anchor is Palma, which sees the highest concentration of >50m yachts in the Mediterranean during refit season. That density is why our central kitchen is in Palma — the catchment is unmatched.

Which island do we recommend for which trip

  • Family charter, calm anchorages, multi-generational menus — Mallorca
  • Music-driven, late-night, high-energy charter — Ibiza
  • Owner trip, bespoke chef, local market sourcing — Mallorca
  • Cultural day in old town + sunset DJ — Ibiza

Crossing between the two

If your itinerary crosses Ibiza ↔ Mallorca, brief us 96 hours out so we can pre-stage in the destination port. We do not let crews carry crates of fresh fish across the Channel — the cold chain breaks every time.
